Triggering of magnetic reconnection in the current sheet by shock waves

چکیده
Interaction of a shockwavewith a current sheet is investigated by the two-dimensional numerical magnetohydrodynamic model. In accordance with the solar coronal conditions, the ratio of the thermal to magnetic pressures of 0.1 and the shock Alfven Mach number of about 1.25 are used. It is found that the shock wave initiates magnetic reconnection process in the current sheet. Further, it is found that the post-shock situation rather than the shock compression is a cause of themagnetic reconnection. Interaction of the shock with the current sheet results in formation of two shocks that propagate away from the current sheet on opposite sides followed by a rarefaction waves region. This dynamic situation causes the current sheet to become gradually thinner and the magnetic reconnection process is initiated probably due to the tearing-mode instability. Presented results support the idea that the solar flare can be triggered by the shock wave from a distant flare.

Generation of Alfvén Waves by Small-Scale Magnetic Reconnection in Solar Spicules
Alfvén waves dissipation is an extensively studied mechanism for the coronal heating problem. These waves can be generated by magnetic reconnection and propagated along the reconnected field lines. Here, we study the generation of Alfvén waves at the presence of both steady flow and sheared magnetic field in the longitudinally density stratified of solar spicules. The initial flow is assumed to...

We examine the effect of weak, small scale magnetic field structure on the rate of reconnection in a strongly magnetized plasma. This affects the rate of reconnection by reducing the transverse scale for reconnection flows, and by allowing many independent flux reconnection events to occur simultaneously. Allowing only for the first effect and using Goldreich and Sridhar’s model of strong turbu...

We discuss that energetic electrons are generated near the X-type magnetic reconnection region due to a surfing acceleration mechanism. In a thin plasma sheet, the polarization electric fields pointing towards the neutral sheet are induced around the boundary between the lobe and plasma sheet in association with the Hall electric current. By using a particle-in-cell simulation, we demonstrate t...

We present the results of three-dimensional global resistive magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of black hole accretion flows. General relativistic effects are simulated by using the pseudo-Newtonian potential. Initial state is an equilibrium model of a torus threaded by weak toroidal magnetic fields. As the magnetorotational instability (MRI) grows in the torus, mass accretes to the black h...

We examine the effect of weak, small scale magnetic field structure on the rate of reconnection in a strongly magnetized plasma. We recover lower and upper limits on the reconnection rate, depending on the reaction of the magnetic field to stresses exerted from within the reconnection layer. Using Goldreich and Sridhar’s model of strong turbulence in a magnetized plasma with negligible intermit...
